It all began in my childhood church when the Associate Pastor preached one Sunday that we should all close our eyes and imagine ourselves "making love to Jesus." It was that day that I realized how inappropriately Christian terms could be misconstrued. That understanding has carried me throughout life. 3 of the following 4 song lyrics below are Christian songs. See if you can choose which one is secular.
a) "...This is my desire: Consume me like a fire, cause I just want something beautiful to touch me. I know that I'm in reach, because I'm down on my knees. I'm waiting for something beautiful, oh something beautiful. He's even blushing a little.
b) "Your love is extravagant. Your friendship, it is intimate. I feel like I'm moving to the rhythm of your grace. Your fragrance is intoxicating in the secret place. Your love is extravagant."
c) The Son of God is in our face, offering us eternal grace. If you want it, you've got to believe 'cause being free is a state of mind. We'll one day leave this all behind. Just put your faith in God, and one day you'll see it.
d) "In the secret, in the quiet place, in the stillness you are there. In the secret, in the quiet hour, I wait only for you cause I want to know you more. I want to touch you. I want to see your face. I want to know you more.
You guessed it, "C" is the secular song (Believe by Lenny Kravitz). While the other three are very good songs, all of which I have on CD, they make me feel the teeniest bit dirty when sung aloud. The worst thing is when my 2 year old starts singing the lyrics during inopportune times and I am wrongfully embarrassed by the sentences he is repeating. "No, no, he's not being dirty! He's just singing the words to Jaci Valesquez's song, "I get on my knees." It's about Jesus, I swear!"
Until tomorrow.

I have had the same thoughts about this subject as well. I think you maybe should have given the pg warning though too before I read the father's day entry. Too funny.
Wow, I didn't realize Lenny Kravitz was so awesome. He may be a better lyricist than some CCM people.
I think this blog is too erotic for me. Maybe I should spend my time reading the Bible. It is filled with less “R” rated material.
“So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe, the long robe with sleeves that he wore; and they took him and threw him in a pit” (Genesis 37:23-24).
“When a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged to be married, and lies with her, he shall give the bride-price for her, and make her his wife” (Exodus 22:16).
“When the Israelites were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks on the Sabbath day…. The people of Israel brought him outside the camp and stoned him to death…” (Numbers 15:32, 36).
“O that you would kill the wicked, O God … I hate them with a perfect hatred … Search me, O God… See if there is any wicked way in me ….” (Psalm 139: 19, 22, 23, 24).
In response to Gary's magically disappearing comment, touche'. However, taken out of context, I would hate for Rowan to say "I'm going to stone you to death." Furthermore, you didn't even touch on the dirty passages from Song of Solomon. Those are racy!
I can remember how the "Associate Pastors" daughter sank down in her seat when her dad said that...so funny! Can you imagine how embarrassed you would have been if your dad said something like that from the pulpit? hahahaha
