Warning: If this blog offends you, calm down; it is not intended for you. The people referenced in the following thoughts do not have time to read a silly little blog.
My contention: People that are overwhelmed by their constant busyness have too many priorities. There, I said it. And unless someone proves me wrong, I stand behind this statement.
There are a couple of people who float in and out of my life explaining their occasional 6 month long disappearances with the excuse, "I've just been soooooo busy." I don't mind this statement the first couple of times it is used, but after saying it for consecutive years at a time, perhaps they should switch over to something more believable, like: "Sheesh, I'm so sorry I haven't be in touch. I've developed a condition in which my fingers flatten, dissolving into my knuckle-region making it impossible to reply to a text or press the Talk button necessary for returning phone calls. Don't blame me; blame my nubs.""I've developed Tourettes Syndrome and I am genuinely concerned that I will say something to you that I don't mean. I haven't returned your phone calls in an effort to protect your feelings.""I've tried to go green and, in turn, I have limited my phone usage to calling 911 during extreme, life-threatening emergencies. Also, I am unable to stop by your house for a quick "hello" because gas consumption is threatening the environment for my children's future children."Any of the previous three excuses would be more acceptable than "I've been busy." Really? You have had zero minutes within the last days/weeks/months to respond? Truly you must be extremely fortunate to have your food delivered to you at restaurants the very second you order it. Otherwise, I would think you could find the 3 seconds it takes to type "h" into your cell phone address book, click on my name, write "hello," and press send. But I'm not bitter.
To expand on my original thought regarding excessive responsibilities, it needs to be understood that maintaining sanity requires having only one person, place, or thing (AKA "noun") in each position in the Priority Ladder. It is impossible to preserve friendships when you consider everything in life of utmost importance. So, as my gift to you, I am providing what I consider to be the perfect Priority List. You may print it and attach it to your refrigerator, if you would like.
1. God
2. Reading this blog
3. Immediate family (spouse & children)
4. Church services/responsibilities
5. Work
6. Extra-curricular friendships (i.e. texting me)
7. Extended Family
8. Personal time
You're welcome.
Until tomorrow.
~Heather
